The company behind the Blair Witch VR movie has released a new trailer for the Blair Witch VR movie, and we’ve got a first look at the film’s secrets and how you’ll be able to experience them.

Today, Sony Pictures released a new VR trailer for the upcoming Blair Witch, which shows off the kind of horror the movie will offer. If you haven’t yet heard of Blair Witch, it’s an indie movie that came out in 1999, starring three actors who are now quite famous. It’s still the best horror movie of the 21st century, but it’s also one of the best movies ever made, period.

After years of tinkering with virtual reality technology, it seems like we finally have a trailer for a full-length virtual reality horror movie. Blair Witch, which is based on the famed 1999 horror movie of the same name, was cited by many as the most terrifying movie in the history of the genre. The movie was said to rely on “artificial” scares that would trick the audience into thinking the characters were truly in danger. However, the reality is that the characters were in fact in a real environment and it was the viewer’s imagination that was brought to life. The effect of the film is so frightening because we never know when we might be truly in danger.

What goes into creating a thrilling horror trailer? With their behind-the-scenes look at the game, Lionsgate and Bloober Team peel back the curtain.

The game’s two-minute debut trailer, which you can see below, captures the essence of the found footage horror flick. Retro technology has been paired with contemporary VR gear to produce it, which switches the point of view from past terror to present gaming.

Live Action Launch Trailer for Blair Witch VR Edition

According to Krzysztof Janicki, Bloober Team’s Creative Marketing Lead:

“Creating a horror game trailer has its own set of difficulties. Within a minute or two, we must create a narrative, elicit powerful emotions, and yet convey the essence of the game.”

Janicki stated the following about the Blair Witch: VR Edition trailer’s pre-production:

“We spend a lot of time looking for the ideal location to film, the appropriate individuals to have on set, and all the items we’ll need… It may take many weeks. The trailer’s pace plays a major role in making it seem like Blair Witch, with the suspense building as the shots become quicker and faster. The live action portions were also filmed in a similar manner to those in Blair Witch, as we utilized handheld shots similar to those in the film. Bloober Team is lucky to have multi-skilled creatives, so the same individuals that film live video on set also edit and combine it with gameplay to create a… well… game trailer. This helps to guarantee the consistency and continuity of our creative vision, and it might even be considered “the secret sauce” of our trailers.”
