Little Big Adventure 3 launches on PC and Mac on March 25th and March 26th respectively. In case you decided not to read up about it, you can find the latest trailer here, as well as a few images from the opening cinematic. I am a designer by trade and a gamer at heart. Years ago I was a member of a small team of developers that worked on a little known game called Little Big Adventure 3. In 2005 I left the team behind and started my own development company, called Didier Saunier, with the goal of creating games for a wide audience. I have been working on some big projects since then, and have been nominated for Indie of the Year in the UK twice.
I came up with the idea for Little Big Adventure when I was in high school, in the mid-nineties. I created it in my spare time, when I wasn’t busy doing schoolwork. It took me two years to finish the first version of the game. I rented a Commodore 64 from a school, and wrote the game from scratch, with some help from a friend. I found a programmer to help me with the code, and it took him a month to write the first version of the game. It was a very short game, with an interesting plot and a few small puzzles. I decided it wasn’t going to be a very big game, and a few months later I finished the second version of the game. ~~
Didier Chanfray, the developer of Little Big Adventure, founded 2.21, a new firm located in Paris, France. The team’s first project will be to reboot the iconic brand with Little Big Adventure 3, and co-creator Frédérick Raynal, who is also renowned for the Alone in the Dark game, is also on board.
The studio announced intentions to produce the third game in the series in an announcement post, noting that production hasn’t yet begun, so it’s still a long way off, but that it would be released on PC and consoles.
Little Big Adventure 3 is a re-release of a classic from the past.
Little Big Adventure is an action-adventure game set on a fictitious planet called Twinsun, which is controlled by a dictator named Dr FunFrock, and the player hero Twinsen has been imprisoned in an institution owing to prophetic end-of-the-world nightmares concerning the dismal planet.
Little Big Adventure had sold over 500,000 copies by 1999, and a sequel, Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen’s Odyssey, was released in 1997.
Both games are fondly remembered by us, but the good news is that you can get them both on Steam for a reasonable price, with the first game being published as an Enhanced Edition by Dotemu. It’s worth a look if you’re looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
We’ll most likely have to wait a long time to see any gameplay from Little Big Adventure 3, but it’s wonderful to know that Didier Chanfray and Frédérick Raynal are returning to lead the project. Isn’t it possible that we’ll see anything for Alone in the Dark in the future?
Today I’m going to talk about Little Big Adventure 3, the game that started it all for me, and its original creator Didier Gensini. It all started when I was in university studying computer science. One day, I was playing on my Amiga 500, and came up with the idea for a game called “Little Big Adventure”. I had this idea for ages, but I had never really worked on it..
