Mandela Barnes is a Democratic Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin. He has been the first African American to hold that position since 1849, and he was sworn in on January 5th, 2019. In addition to his work as Lieutenant Governor, he also serves as President of the National Conference of Black Mayors.
Mandela Barnes, the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, is launching his U.S. Senate campaign on Monday, April 17th.
The next United States Senate election in Wisconsin is scheduled for 2022. In that specific election, Republican Ron Johnson presently controls the seat up for grabs. Johnson was formerly a prominent Senate committee chairman. In the state, he has become a cause of great anxiety and worry.
Many centrist voters in the traditionally purple state have been turned off by his sharp turn to the right. Many of his most egregious remarks have offended people and veered dangerously close to the strange. Johnson has not said whether or not he would seek for re-election in 2022.
But the race is on, at least on the Democratic side.
Barnes is said to be running for president.
Mandela Barnes, the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, is scheduled to formally begin her candidacy for the United States Senate. He joins a strong group of Democrats seeking the Democratic nomination. Others may yet join the competition.
According to Racine County Eye, Barnes’ police reform activism has gotten him a lot of attention. Climate change is one of his other key objectives. Despite this, and the fact that others may start their own campaigns, Barnes’ entrance is tardy. Other Democratic primary contenders have already amassed a sizable following. It may be too late to win them around, particularly if they’ve already made a public endorsement.
For quite some time, the Democratic campaign for the seat has been publicly active. On the other hand, the Republican presidential campaign has come to a halt. Many potential candidates seem to be waiting for Johnson to provide a firm response to their questions about his intentions. So yet, no Republican candidate has declared their candidacy. Many, such as the United States, may be waiting in the wings.
Former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Representative Mike Gallagher.
Barnes served as a state legislator in the past.
Mandela Barnes graduated from Alabama A&M University with a bachelor’s degree. Barnes has previously gotten himself into trouble on this topic. According to reports, he received his diploma in 2020. It followed the revelation that he didn’t really graduate from the institution.
Which, in most cases, wouldn’t be such a huge issue. Presumably, Barnes hadn’t previously bragged about his ostensibly earned degree.
Candidates for lieutenant governor in Wisconsin run in their respective party primaries separately. After that, the victors just wait to see who wins the general election. The lieutenant governorship is awarded to whichever party’s gubernatorial candidate wins the main election.
In 2018, Barnes won the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. Later that year, Democrat Tony Evers was elected governor of Wisconsin. Barnes has Evers’ backing, according to WTMJ, if he runs for Senate.
Barnes formerly served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for two years, representing the 11th District.
He ran for the 4th District seat in the Wisconsin State Senate in 2016. He was defeated by incumbent Lena Taylor for the Democratic nomination. Barnes has worked as a worker for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, among other political positions.
